👤 Public Profiles & Splat Visibility
StorySplat allows users to showcase their work through public profiles and a central Discover page. Understanding how profile and individual splat visibility settings interact is key to controlling what you share.
Your Public Profile (/profile/[your-slug]
)
This is your dedicated showcase page on StorySplat.
- Purpose: To display your selected public information (Display Name, Bio, Links) and feature all the splats you have specifically marked as public.
- Accessing Your Profile Settings: Go to the "Manage Profile" page (usually linked from the User Dashboard or Account settings).
- Profile Visibility Setting:
- "Make profile public" (Checkbox): This setting controls the accessibility of your dedicated profile page (
storysplat.com/profile/your-slug
).- Checked (Public): Your profile page is accessible to anyone with the link. Your public splats are displayed here. Your username might link back to this page from the Discover page.
- Unchecked (Private): Your
/profile/your-slug
page will be inaccessible to others (it will likely show a "Profile not found" or "Profile is private" message). Note: Making your profile private may require a Plus or higher subscription.
- "Make profile public" (Checkbox): This setting controls the accessibility of your dedicated profile page (
- Managing Profile Content: On the "Manage Profile" page, you can set:
- Display Name: Shown on your profile and next to your splats on Discover.
- URL Slug: The unique identifier in your profile URL. Customize it via the Edit (✏️) button. (Must be 3-30 chars, lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens, and unique).
- Bio, Website, Social Links: Optional details displayed on your profile page.
- Accent Color: Customizes highlights on your profile page.
- Saving: Always click "Save Profile Settings" after making changes.
Individual Splat Visibility
This setting controls whether a specific splat can appear in public listings like the Discover page.
- Setting Visibility: Control this for each splat in the User Dashboard (top right of the editor) using the visibility toggle icon (👁️ /
) next to the splat's name. - Public (
showing green/active): This splat is eligible to appear on the Discover page and will appear on your public profile page (if your profile itself is also set to public). Anyone with the direct link to the splat can also view it. - Private (👁️ showing grey/inactive): This splat will not appear on the Discover page or your public profile page. It is only visible to you when you are logged in, or potentially to others if you share the direct splat view link (e.g.,
storysplat.com/your-slug?sceneId=...
). Note: The ability to set splats to Private typically requires a Plus or higher subscription.

Key Differences & Interactions
- Profile Visibility: Controls access to your dedicated
/profile/your-slug
page. It does not prevent your individually public splats from appearing on the main Discover page. - Splat Visibility: Controls whether a specific splat appears on the Discover page and your Public Profile page.
- Discover Page: Shows splats that are individually marked as Public, regardless of the owner's profile visibility setting.
- Public Profile Page: Shows only splats that are individually marked as Public AND requires the profile itself to be set to Public in "Manage Profile".
In Summary:
- To share specific splats publicly (on Discover): Set those individual splats to Public in the User Dashboard.
- To have a dedicated showcase page linking all your public splats: Set your profile to Public in "Manage Profile" and set the desired splats to Public.
- To keep all your work private (not on Discover or your profile page): Set all your individual splats to Private (requires Plus+). Your profile visibility setting becomes less critical in this case, though setting it to private ensures your
/profile/slug
page isn't accessible.
